The new GLK-Class brings added character to the world of compact SUVs. The distinctive and multi-talented GLK sets itself apart from the competition with the unique appeal and enormous functionality of its exterior and combines characteristics that have thus far been considered contradictory. Thanks to its AGILITY CONTROL suspension, outstanding handling is matched with excellent safety and superb comfort. By means of electronic control systems, the modern, variable 4MATIC all-wheel drive system combines perfect on-road performance with well-balanced off-road capabilities. And it is exactly these combinations that that make the GLK so attractive. Among Mercedes SUVs, this is a vehicle that is characterised by its outstanding on-road performance range, while fully justifying the "G" in its signature. "The GLK completes our extremely successful SUV range, and carries typical Mercedes characteristics like refinement, dynamic driving and safety into a smaller format. It has raised the bar in this market segment by quite some distance," comments Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG. Refined performance is also ensured from the four and six-cylinder engines that are as powerful as they are economical and environmentally friendly. The GLK 220 CDI comes as a BlueEFFICIENCY model with the new Mercedes-Benz four-cylinder diesel engine. The base power unit generates 125 kW/170 hp, while consuming only 6.9 litres of diesel per one hundred kilometres. The unshakable underpinnings of the GLK-Class are also highly impressive. Its highly stable bodyshell forms the basis for ground-breaking passive safety, impressively low noise levels and interior comfort with that hallmark Mercedes feel-good factor, and for excellent residual values. Excellent equipment levels and attractive packages separate the GLK yet further from the also-rans in the compact SUV sector. In addition, the latest systems such as ground-breaking PRE-SAFE® and the ILS Intelligent Light System are available in this market segment for the first time. In the first few months following its market launch, the new compact SUV from Mercedes-Benz has already met with huge customer approval. Since 30th June 2008, 25,000 orders have been placed for the GLK-Class in Western Europe. Deliveries of the GLK, which celebrated its world premiere at Auto China in Beijing, began in Western Europe on 18th October this year.
The U.S. market introduction will follow in early 2009.
